Located on busy Jasper Avenue, the project called for a series of cost-effective interventions that would add warmth and definition to the vast but somewhat undefined space of Viet-Thai restaurant - Hoang Long. The design concept played on the "Asian market" idea. Installations combine traditional and contemporary elements, mostly suspended from the ceiling. A cluster of colourful Vietnamese paper lanterns defines the cafe and bar zone, while organically-shaped CNC'd canopy structures reminiscent of boats or Vietnamese dragons create a "marketplace" feel and guide customers into the restaurant. The flow of the space was also redesigned, including a new seating arrangement, built-in bench, bar, and a (bamboo) screened area for private events or larger groups.

ABOUT THE CLIENT
HOW WE DID IT
First, we conducted market research to establish the restaurant’s positioning.
Then, we got inspired and developed a visual identity for Hoang Long.
Lastly, we proceeded to extend this into the interior space.
Hoang Long restaurant is located on Edmonton's downtown mainstreet, Jasper Avenue. The client had recently invested in opening the space, but were unhappy with the overall design and feel of the space which was very modern, minimalist, cold and sterile, with an almost hospital-like feel.
The client engaged with us to transform the space and infuse it with a good atmosphere that reflects their Asian heritage.
The project first called for a brand refresh (from logo through marketing material) and a series of cost-effective interior interventions that would give definition to the space, add warmth and definition to the vast but somewhat undefined space of the Viet-Thai restaurant. The new design concept played on the "Asian market" idea.
